Different Monitoring Technologies

Modern technology has enhanced product monitoring and tracing in the supply
chain systems. Managers can control and trace products through automatic and data capture
technologies. The identification and monitoring of products by use of new technologies by
allowing control and traceability of the movement of products as well as accumulating transport
units within logistic centers. The monitoring technologies used in logistics include barcode
technologies, voice identification, radio-frequency identification, identification via infrared, and
OCR technology. Barcodes and RFID have been used frequently in the logistics to monitor and
trace products’ movement. RFID provides the ability to identify and monitor the movements of
people and products in real-time. Besides, logistics and transportation use technologies such as
RFID and WSN and the Internet of Things to monitor people and products effectively. A TWSN-
based logistics vehicle monitoring system provides real-time movement of people and vehicles
by installing wireless sensor nodes in vehicles to achieve real-time intelligent monitoring and

delivery of products through communication systems and provides sufficient protection of the
vehicle in the logistics system. Logistics companies can use satellite tracking systems as well as
RFID and barcodes to effectively monitor product movement (Bibi, Guillaume, Gontard & Sorli,
2017).

Importance of an Employee Monitoring Policy
Employee monitoring policy is vital for organizations to monitor the movements
and actions of employees to ensure that they remain vigilant and committed to assigned tasks.
Employee monitoring can take different forms such as the use of CCTV to detect crime, email
scans to prevent data leakage and computer log analysis to identify system misuse. Employee
monitoring policy plays an essential role in combating policy breaches and theft and is used on
the grounds to protect assets of organizations as well as making the workplace safer for
employees to detect incidents of bullying and misconduct. Proper employee monitoring policy
ensures privacy in the workplace and complying with acceptable work policies as well as
preventing theft incidents (Bibi et al., 2017).

Lesson Learned

This course has developed me into a better logistics manager. I have learned that
the process of the supply chain requires proper and effective communication, proper paperwork,
planning, coordination and process monitoring in order to ensure practical and complete supply
chain logistics. Besides, I have learned the ability to apply technologies such as RFID, and the
Internet of Things to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the supply chain through
monitoring, controlling, tracking and planning as well as coordinate logistics activities. Supply
chain management is an essential aspect of business because it enhances customer satisfaction

and company profits by providing real-time data to improve company efficiency and
performance. These skills will help to provide valuable data for optimizing businesses processes
as well as increasing the degree of automation and eliminating bottlenecks (Arvis, Ojala,
Wiederer, Shepherd, Raj, Dairabayeva & Kiiski, 2018).

Besides, reverse logistics is a new field in the supply chain, which provides
opportunities to study the supply chain and logistics management. I have learned how to focus on
core business activities and gained the ability to design logistics systems to match with business
goals by maximizing company flexibility and scalability. I have also gained the skills to manage
the flow of products, goods, and supplies involving data, information, and documentation
between points and business entities. Since the supply chain is the backbone of a business, it is
essential to establish a robust, efficient and effective structure for logistics that will maximize
company resources, capture and recapture value to enhance customer satisfaction. Therefore, I
can meet customer demands by providing superior services. This will include the creation of
shippers to provide accurate, fast and quality services. This is because logistics management is
vital in satisfying customer needs. I can create visibility of company supply chains such as
advanced transportation systems and tracking product using real-time technologies and
movement in order to optimize and avoid potential disruptions. Thus, I can use logistics to
increase company profits, improve reputation, and create visibility to save costs as well as solve
logistics complexities using 3PL to manage all functions effectively and efficiently.
