Broadband Technologies
Name one of the six broadband technologies. Give the advantages and disadvantages of the technology
you choose. Minimum of 250 words.
*Then write “Lesson Learned”
In regards to the broadband technology chosen above, what you have learned that you have never
known until this course. It can be anything you learned from the lecture, book or something you have
seen in the news or television on a topic covered during this week. Your response should be 250 words
maximum.
Broadband technologies refer to high-speed Internet access that is always quicker
than dial-up access. Broadband ensures excellent access to high-speed internet-to-internet users
that enable them to share a significant amount of information faster and more efficiently (Bennett
& Raab, 2017). Wireless broadband connects a business or home to the Internet using radio links
between the location of customers and the facility of the service provider. Thus, wireless
broadband allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection remotely and share
information, resources, and files. Therefore, wireless broadband has many advantages. Firstly, it
increases the mobility of accessing the Internet from anywhere within the location of the server
as well as enables and facilitates the BYOD (Bring Your Device) phenomenon. Secondly,

wireless networks increase productivity by allowing workers to collaborate efficiently. Thirdly,
wireless networks provide public WI-FI hotspots, which enable people to get access to the
Internet, and allows connection to business and accessing of online services remotely. Fourthly,
wireless networks allow scalability as it readily enables the addition of users, and it is faster and
relatively convenient. Firth, it allows guest use to access Internet and data within an organization
which increases customer satisfaction and allows users to make phone calls using voice over
inter-protocol. Lastly, Wi-Fi is cost-effective as maintenance costs are low and no addition
scaling up costs is usually needed as well as reduces health and safety risks within an
organization (Bennett & Raab, 2017).
However, wireless broadband has several disadvantages. This is because it has
lesser range since medium-range networks for wireless broadband is around 100 meters making
it insufficient for more massive structures. Wireless networks increase security issues due to
risks of eavesdropping and modification. A wireless network is less reliable. Besides, wireless
networks have less speed as compared to wired networks. This is because wireless networks are
very slow and speed decreases further in a busy network (Bennett & Raab, 2017).
New Lesson
It is fantastic to learn that broadband technology adoption and access promote
economic growth and development as well as enhances social equity. Besides, it is also
important to acknowledge that broadband technology promotes public health, educational
opportunities and public safety for millions of people around the globe. This is because
technology is changing every aspect of our lives in a rapidly changing world and how to connect
and interact with people. Broadband technologies such as wireless networks promote the

realization of economic and social objectives by availing; improving and enhancing the manner
we work and live (Bennett & Raab, 2017). I have also learned that broadband technology allows
access to affordable, abundant and redundant information and access to the internet that can
enhance office interactions, improve the efficiency of company operations, customer satisfaction
leading to improved company performance. Therefore, broadband technology brings a large
group of people and teams together to share information, files, and other resources more
efficiently and faster as compared to the traditional dial-up networks. Besides, I learned that
broadband technology allows public and private entities in the world to develop networks to
support their Internet needs of both current and foreseeable future (Bennett & Raab, 2017).
I have learned that a country economy and business success is dependent on
connectivity and innovation in order to survive and thrive in the modern competitive
environment by providing businesses with high-speed Internet. Moreover, broadband technology
has enriched education systems globally as students can access resources efficiently and tutors
online using high-speed broadband. Broadband technology brings world-class healthcare and
improves both public safety and services. Lastly, three is also the emerging Internet of Things
that is increasing general connectivity as well as telework that allows digital connectivity and
empowers employees to work remotely.
