Define TPS, DSS, and EIS and explain how an organization can use these systems to make decisions
and gain competitive advantages. In 250 words or more in the forum, please describe what a literature
review is and why it is important.
TPS, DSS, and EIS in Reverse Logistics
TPS, DSS, and EIS are used continuously in modern logistics to aid in decision-
making and to gain business competitive business advantages for various logistics companies.
These systems can strategically enhance both processes of decision-making as well as create and
maintain a competitive advantage for logistics business. TPS in logistics is the transportation
protective service and is used to enhance the process of logistics planning. DSS is used to mean
decision support systems while EIS is used to mean environmental impact assessment or
emergency Imbalance Surcharge in case of multiple port destinations. This is because computer-
aided systems provide quality and integration for managers’ access to comprehensive reporting
tools, which are best in class capabilities and systems to make smarter decisions. Besides, the
systems are laser-focused and provide a holistic approach to logistics management from the
boardroom to the shipping dock by enhancing efficiency in all corporate environments,
especially from centralized to decentralized philosophies of management. The systems also
enhance transparency in maintaining standards of attestation in engagements as well as
establishing corporate philosophy. For instance, logistics managers can use TPS to strategically

create competitive advantage and make critical decisions in inventory planning, backlogging,
foreign and domestic shipping, while DSS can develop sustainable reverse logistics management
through a strategic managerial decision-making process. Besides, EIS is vital in integration and
open systems for logistics to enhance customer satisfaction by incorporating environment and
emergency practices to establish sustainable reverse logistics strategies (Govindan, Soleimani &
Kannan, 2015).

Importance of Literature Review
A literature review is a scholarly work, which includes the current information or
knowledge as well as substantive studies and methodological and theoretical contributions to a
specific field or topic. According to Govindan, Soleimani, and Kannan (2015), a literature
review is essential in the field of reverse logistics. This is because reverse logistics is a new field
under supply chain management. Incorporating technology concerning TPS, DSS and EIS
systems requires sufficient literature review to help logistics management integrate the systems
in logistics management. It is evident that an application of technology lacks sufficient literature
to support it. Management requires adequate literature review to show efficiency, effectiveness,
and applicability of TPS, DSS, and EIS in reverse logistics and how they help to enhance
decision making, and creating a competitive advantage for a logistics firm as well as improving
overall logistics performance. Therefore, a literature review is essential in the field of logistics in
supporting managerial decisions to establish and maintain sustainable reverse logistics unit.
