SMART Plan: Project Goal and Objectives

is important to the success of a project. This design allows a project manager to structure a
project and track its performance as it is implemented.
For this assignment, develop a goal and three or four objectives for your program using the
SMART design. Use the “SMART Plan: Project Goal and Objectives” template to complete your
assignment.

Nursing SMART Goals and Objectives
In nursing, setting concise goals is paramount, since it provides direction in career, and
grants a greater sense of purpose. Additionally, clear objectives help one to stay focused on tasks
at hand and keeps individuals motivated when they get frustrated (Garcia, Harrison, & Goodwin,
2016). By setting clear goals, a nurse will not only be able to take stock of their professional
strengths but also the skills that they need to hone or develop. As a student in a nursing program,

having clear goals and objectives will help me stay focused and determined throughout the
duration of the program.
SMART Goals
Specific goal
During the duration of my nursing program, I have to attend at least three conferences
about anxiety and depression in the next one and a half year.
Measurable goal
Within the next two years, I have to increase my overall GPA by 4 percent.
Achievable goal
Even though my time is often limited by schoolwork, I have to read two industry or
specialty related articles a week to advance my growth as a nursing student.
Realistic goal
To find one hospital around my school to do voluntary work during the weekends to
broaden my horizons and to establish contacts for my future career as a nurse.
Time-bound goal
To complete my research on cardiovascular diseases and obesity in the next four months.
SMART Objectives
- By January 1 st , 2020, I will have undergone a hundred percent training on health
education in the school district on the pre-approved health education curriculum.

- By the end of the academic year, I will be among the twenty youth participating in the
assertive communication skills program in the middle school HIV-prevention curriculum. - By February 19 th , 2020, I will reduce the percentage of 8 th graders in my locality who are
obese from five to four percent.
